A complete WW2 gas mask kit by Barringer, Wallis & Manners including mask, breathing tube, canister, original bag and very rare anti-dimming compound.
The mask itself is complete with all lenses, straps and clips intact. There is slight perishing to the rubber in places. The mask has a patent number and is dated 1940.
The matrial-covered rubber breathing tube and attachments are in remarkably good condition.
The metal canister has it's original paint with some slight wear. The top is marked "BARRINGER, WALLIS & MANNERS" with a military broad arrow. The base is stamped "4A, BIRMINGHAM" and dated 1939.
The canvas bag is original with straps and all fittings intact. There is some staining and usage wear. The main section has 3 compartments for the mask, canister and tube. There are 2 further compartments to the rear to hold any extra accessories (anti-dimming agent etc.) Both flaps do close and clip into place. The front flap inner is stamped (faded) with a maker and is dated 1939 with the military broad arrow.
The kit includes a rather rare metal tube of anti-dimming compound for the lenses. It is marked Mk.V. and dated 5/1939 with instructions for use.
