Rare Vintage Deutsche Bahn Railway Lamp. Original and Complete. 51cm.
A rare vintage German railway lamp, used for signaling purposes. The lamp has a robust metal construction with a black, slightly weathered finish, indicating age and use. The front features the original circular red glass lens, allowing light to be projected in a specific direction. The door with functioning catch opens to reveal the original burner and fuel container. Both sides of the lamp display a red and white diagonal cross pattern, which is a typical railway signal marking. The back has a clear glass lens. At the bottom, there are four sturdy metal brackets, suggesting that the lamp could be mounted onto railway equipment, such as switches or signal posts. The embossed markings "DB 70" indicate that it was manufactured by Deutsche Bahn (Germany's railway company). The lamp also has a vented chimney at the top for heat dissipation and a curved metal handle for carrying or hanging. This type of lamp was likely fueled by oil or kerosene before the widespread adoption of electric signaling. The lamp is in original, unrestored condition. This is quite rare as most other examples have often been repainted. Please view images above for more detail.
