The 1st Ranger Battalion is the first of three ranger battalions belonging to the United States Army's 75th Ranger Regiment.

It was originally formed shortly after the United States' entry into World War II and was modeled after the British Commandos during the war. This is the subdued (olive drab) version. A subdued military patch uses muted, low-contrast colors (like black, olive green, brown, or tan) instead of bright, full colors, designed to reduce visibility and blend in with camouflage uniforms, making soldiers harder to spot during tactical operations, deployments, or in low-light situations, while still identifying rank, unit, or skill.
