Antique Art Nouveau J.P. Kayser & Sohn (Kayserzinn) Jugendstil Centerpiece. Please See Description.

R 2,500

This elegant centerpiece is a fine example of early 20th-century Art Nouveau design, crafted by the German manufacturer Kayserzinn, known for their high-quality pewterware. The centerpiece features a symmetrical, architectural structure made primarily of pewter with intricate floral and geometric reliefs on the sides, characteristic of the Jugendstil (German Art Nouveau) movement. It includes two side compartments with glass inserts, etched with delicate palm-like patterns, which add a refined decorative touch. The central raised platform is supported by four slender vertical rods and holds a clear glass dish with concentric etched rings and a cut starburst pattern at the base. Below the upper dish is a small round recess intended to hold a candle or burner, suggesting this piece may have been used as a warming or serving centerpiece.  Alternatively would also have held fruit, sweets or nuts. The handles and ornate detailing, along with the use of mixed materials (glass and pewter), reflect the period's emphasis on both function and aesthetic beauty.

Condition : The glass circular bowl has 2 x small chips to the inside rim.  The glass inserts each have 1 small chip to the inside rim.  I have tried to photograph them (please see images) but they are quite difficult to spot.  In my view, they do not detract from the piece and the overall effect is one of beautiful ageing and patina.  Kindly view the images above for more detail.

Stamped "KAYSER" with the "eagle" logo. This particular mark is associated with the period when Hugo Leven and other prominent designers were working with the Kayserzinn factory, producing high-quality Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) metalware.

This stamp authenticates the piece as a genuine Kayserzinn Art Nouveau centerpiece, likely made between 1900 and 1910.
