Chinese mud art, best known as Mudmen or Shekwan (Shiwan) ware, is a traditional Chinese craft originating from the Shiwan kilns in Guangdong province. Dating back over a thousand years, it features intricately sculpted,clay figures of sages, fishermen, and scholars used in traditional Chinese arts.
Originally, artisans crafted these miniature figures for Pen'jing (Chinese landscape trays) so the "mudmen" could stand as wise men meditating by miniature mountains.
