A vintage folding knife by renowned German manufacturer Carl Schlieper. The gilded embossed metal scales display busts of Presidents Kruger, Steyn, Swart and Verwoerd and states "31 MEI 1961" and "REP. VAN S-A". The maker's stamp to the blade is partly faded but "C. SC" is visible with the "Eye Brand" logo confirming the maker as Carl Schlieper. The blade sits firmly and opens and closes smoothly.
Founded in 1754 in Cronenberg, Germany, Carl Schlieper is a renowned German cutlery manufacturer famous for its "Eye Brand" knives, established in Solingen in 1898. Originally a tool and hardware trader, the company expanded globally in the 19th century and pivoted to high-quality cutlery, including folding knives and machetes, before closing in 1993.
