Early cigar press moulds, often crafted from hardwoods, worked by compressing newly hand-bunched fillers into uniform, rounded shapes. The filler was placed in the bottom half's troughs, covered with the top half, and clamped in a mechanical press. These tools consisted of two matching pegged wooden blocks. Each half contained a series of carved, shallow, tapered channels that defined the final shape (like Corona or Robusto).
