At the age of 17 he obtained his printing diploma at the Printing Union of Cape Town and later took over his father's printing company. In 1974 he moved to Pretoria where he made painting his profession. Some of the leading galleries in the country have exhibited his work and many of his paintings are displayed in embassies and private collections in South Africa and abroad.
Luther's love for the West Coast, the old District Six, Soutrivier, Elands Bay, Struisbaai etc. is evident in his work. He passed away in 2010.
