A Shona ceremonial dagger, known as a bakatwa, with its wood and hide sheath. This is a traditional prestige object from the Shona peoples of Zimbabwe. The bakatwa features a double-edged iron blade and a wooden sheath, called a hara. It is a significant cultural and religious item, often used in ceremonies by spirit-mediums and diviner-healers, and is passed down as a family heirloom. The blade, as in this example, often has a distinctive recessed or dark-colored panel along one side.
