1880`s French Renaissance Revival Patinated Bronze Ewer.

R 1,850

An extraordinary 19th Century Renaissance Revival ewer in patinated bronze.  A highly decorative piece with a detailed figural handle and scenes rendered all around the body (please see images above for more detail).  Mounted on a circular marble base.  The ewer is 24 cm in height with the base diameter measuring 8 cm.  This is a solid, heavy piece, weighing 1.1 kg.  In good antique condition.

From the 1850s through the 1890s, a renewed interest in the architectural and decorative vocabularies of the Renaissance brought about a revival of certain aspects of this earlier style in European architecture and decorative arts. Nineteenth-century designs combined classical architectural elements, such as columns, pediments, and caryatids with a rich vocabulary of Renaissance motifs, including scrolling foliage, strap-work, and mythical grotesque creatures.
